Si hay algo que uno generalmente queda impresionado cuando ve una obra de arte es el hiper-realismo. La técnica te deja con la boca abierta, pero se supone que la fotografía liberó al arte de la responsabilidad de representar el mundo de manera fidedigna.

La excepción que me impresionó fue el escultor Ron Mueck, quien combina temáticas de la angustia de la vida con una ejecución técnica que te deja esperando que la escultura empiece a respirar.

Ron Mueck is a London-based photo-realist artist. Born in Melbourne , Australia , to parents who were toy makers, he labored on children’s television shows for 15 years before working in special effects for such films as Labyrinth, a 1986 fantasy epic starring David Bowie.

His work is lifelike but not life size, and being face to face with the tiny, gossiping Two Women (2005) or the monumental woman In Bed (2005) is an unforgettable experience

Mueck’s huge 4.5m crouching Boy was the centerpiece of the Millennium Dome in London and of the Venice Biennale in 2001. The artist’s work is becoming ever more intriguing, ranging from smaller-than-life size naked figures to much larger, but never actual, life size.

Consequently his hyper-realistic sculptures in fiberglass and silicone, while extraordinarily lifelike, challenge us by their odd scale. The psychological confrontation for the viewer is to recognize and assimilate two contradictory realities.

Vertu ha lanzado 2 ediciones más de su gama “Racetrack Legends Series”. Las nuevas ediciones son Le Mans and Indianapolis. Ambos teléfonos son especialmente tratados para lograr que su cuero quede con la misma trama que la fibra de carbono. La edición Le Mans es azul y la edición Indianapolis es negra. También Vertu realizo un packaging con todo el set completo de teléfonos, 6 en total. Los últimos dos restantes del set son de color amarillo y gris, y uno de ellos será llamado Monaco Racetrack. Se espera que la serie sea completada para la primavera de este año.

Vertu have released two more editions from their Racetrack Legends series of Ascent’s. The new editions are the Le Mans and Indianapolis Ascent’s. Both phones feature specially treated leather designed to look like carbon fiber. The Le Mans edition is blue whilst the Indianapolis edition is black. As well as the two new editions Vertu are also making a boxed set of all six Racetrack Legends phones which will include the two currently unreleased Racetrack Legends Ascent’s. All the phones in the boxed sets will bear the same serial number which is between one and fifty which were blocked off from the beginning of the series. The two remaining colors of the series are yellow and grey, one of the phones is known to be named after the Monaco racetrack. The series is expected to be completed by spring of this year.

Atención al prototipo que tiene entre manos el fabricante Vectrix. Se trata de una futurista Superbike de la que darán más información el próximo 6 de noviembre en una conferencia de prensa en el stand que la firma tendrá por esas fechas en el Eicma, una exposición internacional de biciletas y motocicletas a celebrar en Milán.

Habrá que estar muy pendientes de esta novedad de la no demasiado conocida firma de motocicletas, que sin lugar a dudas pondrá el nombre de Vectrix en boca de todos. Para los que desconozcáis por completo quién es Vectrix, se trata de una empresa americana que diseña y comercializa motos de emisión cero, y ya hemos hablado en alguna ocasión de ellos.

Falling into the “maxiscooter” category, the Vectrix electric scooter has a top speed limited to 62 mph, allowing for a range of 68 miles from its 125 Volt NiMH battery. If the long-rumored all-electric Superbike from Vectrix does in fact make its first appearance on November 6th in Milan at the 2007 Eicma show, expect the speed and range to be a bit higher. Assuming that similar technology is used in the Superbike as in the scooter, the machine should feature regenerative braking by simply rolling the throttle backwards. When the bike is stationary, rolling the throttle back should move the bike slowly in reverse.

Por ahora solamente te da acceso a diferentes cupones sobre promociones de la semana y te envian las actualizaciones via mensaje de textos. Nosotros no pudiomos tomar ventaja de esos cupones que nos ofrecieron, pero creemos que deberas mostrar tu celular cuando pagas en la caja.

We spotted this kiosk on a recent trip to the Seattle IKEA, and immediately were curious as to what it offered. What we found was a cool use of technology that allows you to sync your mobile phone via text message and barcodes. But why would you want to do that?

What we had hoped for was a way to make a shopping list for the dreaded self-serve area, but we didn’t find anything that cool. For now, it gives you access to several coupons and specials for the week and sends you regular updates via text message for deals and discounts. We didn’t take advantage of any of the coupons offered, but we’d guess you have to show or scan your cell phone as you check out.

Esta lámpara se parece derretir desde el techo como un líquido viscoso. Hecho de un plástico grueso semi translúcido duro y no frágil. La luz producida no es brillante, es más bien una luz tenue con un gran efecto luminoso. De todas formas este efecto puede variar según la potencia del foco a utilizar. Además, se monta en la pared o piso y queda libre de cables.

This lamp seems to melt out of the ceiling like a viscid fluid. Made from a hard semi translucent thick plastic, it is very tougth & not fragile. The produced light is not dull & not bright, a soft glowing light, which can be brightened with a higher powered bulb. This would be a great feature & as it is ceiling mounted has no messy wires. It will install over any existing celing light socket but if you want it in a new location you will need a electrician.

Estos postes de iluminación están ubicados en el Centro de Tecnología de Panasonic en Tokio, y usan la luz solar y el viento para cargar sus baterías, a diferencia del Solar Tree, que sólo usa energía solar. Al llegar la noche, la energía almacenada sirve para alimentar el sistema de iluminación. Según Panasonic el costo de estos aparatos, se recupera rápidamente con el ahorro en la cuenta eléctrica.

Spotted at Panasonic’s technology center in Tokyo, these street lamps combine solar power from a pair of panels on top that charge a battery during daylight hours, and a vertical wind turbine, to light up the area in an ultra eco-friendly way using no external power source. Dubbed Seagull Lights by the company, Panasonic claims that their cost is quickly paid back in lower electricity costs. They even look particularly cool as the turbine slowly spins around.
